SONG OF THE YEAR
Mānaiakalani
MĀNAIAKALANI celebrated as HAWAIIAN MUSIC ALBUM OF THE YEAR and LINER NOTES OF THE YEAR at the
2026 Nā Hōku Hanohano Awards
A proud chapter in Kamalei’s musical journey, this honor marks a meaningful milestone in his career as a Hawaiian recording artist. Recognized among Hawaiʻi’s highest honors in music, the Nā Hōkū Hanohano Awards celebrate excellence in Hawaiʻi’s recording industry and the artists committed to preserving the traditions of Hawaiian music, elevating its artistry, and carrying its stories, language, and legacy forward for generations to come.
"A reminder to remain steadfast in our love for 'āina, 'ohana, lāhui, and ke Akua."
The name of this album was inspired after a memorable sail with Captain Archie Kalepa on the wa'a kaulua Mānaiakalani - a symbol of hope, guidance, and the lifelong pursuit of knowledge. Each mele is a vessel, carrying the legacies, memories, and 'ike of our kūpuna across time and space, guided by the light and love of ke Akua.
Mānaiakalani is a voyage that reflects the journey of life, honoring the people, places, and moments that shape us. A reminder to remain steadfast in our love for 'āina, 'ohana, lāhui, and ke Akua. As you listen, may the music move you and carry you forward into the voyage ahead with intention and aloha.
